How to Help Ukrainians Now

Catastrophic flooding has led to a grave humanitarian disaster. The volunteers could use our support.

As you probably know, Ukraine has been at war for 20 months, since Russian tanks and troops crossed the border on Feb. 24, 2022. Last week, the war resulted in a new humanitarian and environmental disaster: the destruction of the Kakhovka Dam, in an area of southern Ukraine that Russian forces have occupied since the early days of the invasion.

On the morning of June 6, an explosion breached the center of the dam, resulting in catastrophic flooding that has forced the evacuation of tens of thousands of people. Victims of the attack are being rescued but have endured devastating loss.

Helping the Volunteers

Nurses are often called to help in the wake of natural or manmade disasters. One way to help the people of Ukraine now is by donating to the individuals, charities, and NGOs that are volunteering on the scene. Timothy Snyder is a Yale history professor who has written and lectured extensively on Ukraine. He has compiled a list of ways to donate. Please give what you can and share this widely.
