Registered Nurse First Assistant Per Diem
The Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) is a frontline perioperative registered nurse leader who functions in an expanded role, working in collaboration with the surgeon and health care team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes and improve efficiency of operations. Responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care through the continuum of perioperative care, including preoperative, intraoperative surgeon assistance, and postoperative care for all patient populations.
Functions as an RN first assistant during operative and other invasive procedures, while maintaining the ability to function in additional roles including but not limited to circulating nurse, surgical scrub, and PFC when required. The RNFA does not concurrently function as an assistant and a surgical scrub or circulating RN. Maintains practice in accordance with organizational standardized procedures, scope of practice, credentials, privileges, experience, education and competency verification.
This position requires flexibility of hours. The RNFA role exists to provide opportunity for surgical assistant practice over a period of two years to support achievement of certification requirements for progression to the CRNFA role.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree required or in progress at time of hire with completion within 24 months of hire.AORN approved RNFA certificate of program completion required.
EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:
Minimum five years OR experience with combination of scrub and circulating experience required.Experience in preoperative and postoperative patient care and pathway development preferred.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
Required:
Current unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN)
Current Basic Life Support Provider (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support Provider (ACLS) issued by American Heart Association
Current Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) issued by the Competency & Credentialing Institute (CCI)
