Registered Nurse – DOU (Definitive Observation Unit)
Coordinates/Provides nursing care for patients, participates in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary, nursing and other patient team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting.
The primary patients provided care on the DOU are adults and geriatric patients who have a medical or surgical condition which requires specialized care and close observation.
The Staff Nurse must be competent in the assessment of adult/senior patients for appropriate behavior, motor skills and psychological norms. He/she must be knowledgeable in recognizing signs and symptoms of abuse or neglect, and cognizant of safety issues, both environmental and medical. The DOU Nurse must be knowledgeable in the use of the DOU equipment and monitoring devices.
Qualifications
- Graduate from a school of nursing with diploma, associate degree, or BSN. Current active license in the State of California.
- Recent health care experience in an acute hospital setting. Prefer 1-3 years experience within acute care within the last 18 months.
- Possesses and Maintains BLS, ACLS & NIHSS Stroke Scale certifications. Cardiac Arrhythmia class.
- Critical Care course preferred.
- Basic Computer Skills required.
